After my studies, I decided that an experience abroad, in addition to being the opportunity to discover a new culture and a new language, would allow me to return to France with a solid CV and new skills that could make the difference in interviews. This was more than confirmed later, so I did really well. I needed a destination: Japan (that was easy to find!). So here I am, off for my first experience in Japan.
I needed a visa! And there, after some research, I realized that the easiest way would be to apply for the PVT (Working Holiday Visa)! I said “apply”, at that time, I thought that it would not be so easy and that it would be necessary to do it well in advance (I am French, so I have a certain apprehension of the administration……). In reality, everything went very quickly (Oh how lucky the efficiency of the Japanese administrative services is, I still almost have a tear in my eye…!).
Please note: this visa is only open to people aged 18 to 30, it is only valid for one year and it is not renewable. Go to the website of the Japanese embassy in France,
Everything is very well explained and so I don't have much to add regarding the administrative part. Be sure to download the files to complete.
A file that will take you a little more time because it requires some research is that which concerns the “Project of your activities in Japan”. Indeed, the PVT, as its name suggests, should allow you to “discover” Japan by having the possibility of working to cover your costs on site. Aero Leads Do not say in your project that the goal is to settle in a city for a year and join a Japanese company because this will not correspond to the eligibility criteria. To obtain this visa, you are supposed to have the plan to “visit” Japan, and therefore to plan several places of stay of varying lengths and work part-time to ensure that you have enough to live peacefully (once there with your visa). in your pocket it’s up to you!).
You will need to indicate the period,
The place of stay (the envisaged rent), and your activities (in the case of professional activity, the envisaged salary). The aim of the operation is therefore to show that you are leaving with a more or less concrete idea of what awaits you there with financial solutions so as not to find yourself in an impasse.
You can therefore complete this file as follows:
Period: from 09/6/2017 to 11/11/2017
Cities in which you plan to stay. Australian number data Type of accommodation and planned rent: Tokyo, accommodation in “Sakura House” shared dormitory type (36,000 yen/month).
Activities you wish to carry out in Japan: description of tourist/cultural visits and the budget you wish to devote to them, other activities (language courses, etc.) with the number of hours and cost (if applicable), possible employment ( type of employment, number of hours and salary envisaged, avenues of research): Visit to Tokyo and surrounding areas, Nikko (visit to the city’s temples, 400 yen (円) for Sanbutsudo and 300 円 for Treasure Room and Shôyô -in + return train journey), Kamakura, Shizuoka. Part-time job in Tokyo, type of French restaurant service, around 900 円/hour.
(Please note, the visa clearly states that it is forbidden to occupy certain work positions, particularly those involving alcohol or gambling, so do not say in your project that you want to work in a bar!)
